What is the BNS standard?
Portal Network BNS Standard
The Portal Network BNS standard is based on best practices of the centralized Domain Name Service. It is designed to be flexible and upgradable, while being fully decentralized, secure and chain agnostic. Portal Network’s BNS standard employs smart contracts to store and retrieve domain records created by their owners. Each record is governed by a smart contract and the data can only be updated or modified by its owner. A main advantage of a BNS protocol is its modularity. (I) The BNS registry, (II) the BNS registrar, and (III) the BNS resolver are three separate components that interact with each other through well-defined interfaces. The modular design allows the separation of various functionality implementations from the basic data model and any types of records. One BNS is deployed for each protocol or project that Portal Network supports, using the Layer 1 Protocol’s native smart contract language.
